10U Wins Gold at 2022 Can/Am

When it comes to hockey tournaments, Can/Am is widely regarded as one of the best in North America. Our 10U Squirts spent this last weekend at Can/Am in Lake Placid, the home of the 1980 Olympics. They had the honor of playing at Herb Brooks Arena, site of the “Miracle on Ice” USA gold medal win over the Soviet Union. It was a special weekend in a special place and an excellent way to end the season for the 10U Knights.

Coach Mike Darragh said in a Facebook post, “There is no better place to finish the season than the 10U CanAm Challenge Cup in Lake Placid, NY. This place IS hockey.

The team went 3-1 on the weekend, with their only loss coming from their match with the Martha’s Vineyard Mariners, the same team they beat 6-3 in the gold medal game on Sunday. Tommy Stalker lead the team with 4 goals in that game.

In addition to the tournament play there was a skills competition for the players. Millbrook competed in two events. In the relay race Nate Cutillo, Henry Kunkle, Ryan Chatlos, and Atticus Downs made it to the final four. In the shootout competition Dante Trocino was the Knights shooter. He did really well scoring 2 goals in his 2 rounds. Goalie, Pat Darragh was the runner up in the shootout competition saving 7 of 9 shots in the final round.

Head coach Kevin Beck said of the weekend, We had talked about taking this group to a Can/Am tournament in Lake Placid for several years now. To watch the kids battle back and win gold was a great way to end our season. It was a fantastic weekend for us all and a great memory for the players to have.
