Introducing the Millbrook Dames

In our 60 years as an organization the Millbrook Youth Hockey Association has yet to field an all girls team. That is all about to change this season. With the rise in popularity of women’s hockey in the past few years, and the influx of stars like Haylie Wickenheiser and Marie-Philip Poulin, it is not a question of if MYHA should include an all girls team, but when.

The Dames will be a developmental program dedicated to the growth of our young girls and their love for hockey. We are poised to field a team of young 8U age girls this season. Practices look to be one time per week and we are hoping to have one game per weekend. That makes the commitment somewhere between our Rangers Learn to Play program and our travel program. Tuition is undetermined at this point however we are approximating it to be around $350/ season which will likely run October 2022 to February 2023. Our roster is not yet full. Any interested families should please contact board@millbrookyouthhockey.org.

The idea for The Dames came toward the end of this past season. We had a good enrollment of young girls in our Learn to Play program. We wanted a place for these girls, and girls from all over the Hudson Valley, to call home and have something they can also call their own.

Most of the girls who have expressed interest are siblings of current MYHA players and we would like to give them a platform where they can develop at their own pace and not necessarily be tied into our travel program until they are ready or willing.

With the support of the Millbrook Prep School and their girls hockey program we hope to spread the love of this game to our female hockey players.

Head Coach and MYHA Vice President Kevin Beck said, “Girls hockey is growing at an incredible rate. I wanted to have a place for young girls who are interested in hockey to start to develop their skills. It is our hope that this program will be a stepping stone to our travel teams or to build an all girls (travel) team. If nothing else we’ll have a fun environment where the girls can be together and enjoy the game”

Again, families with interest should contact board@millbrookyouthhockey.org.
